Ok, I Guess I Do Like to Make Stuff

I really do like to make things..however, sometimes I don't always say it out loud for fear I sound dismissive, as in, "Oh I don't buy that. I make that." Which of course I would never say. I also worry that I might get that reputation of the crazy grandma who still uses boiled fabric strips to dress wounds...which I do not...anymore. My point is, I find making things like body warmers with lavender inside, or oils with fresh grown herbs from my garden, therapeutic. This all leads me to another task I like to do: Teach about how to make said items and more.

I LOVE making Shower Steamers and giving away as gifts. They are easy and inexpensive to make and I had a hankering to share how I make them.

Enjoy this video to learn how to make Shower Steamers!!

Directions:

  1. Place Menthol Crystals in a plastic bag. Crush the crystals using a rubber mallet, or rolling pin. Set aside once crushed.

  2. Mix the Baking Soda, Citric Acid, and Cornstarch together in bowl. Make sure that there are no clumps! Add in the crushed Menthol Crystals.

  3. Pour in the Peppermint Essential Oil (or other desired smell), and distribute it evenly throughout the mixture. Stir in Mica Powder to reach desired color.

  4. With Plastic Gloves on, use the small spray bottle to add the Witch Hazel into the mixture. Mix, using your hands, until the mixture has the consistency of wet sand.

  5. Pack the mixture into desired shape mold. Make sure mixture is really packed into the mold, so that the shower steamer holds its shape!

  6. Tip the mold onto wax paper so that the steamer comes out of the mold. Continue this process until all of the mixture is used up.

  7. Sprinkle the Sparkle Dust (optional) on top of each shower steamer.

  8. Allow steamers to dry over night.

  9. Package each steamer using square tinfoil, with a sticker on bottom to seal.

  10. Enjoy your shower steamers by placing in shower, out of direct water. The aroma is so therapeutic!
